Virechana
Virechana is a deeply cleansing Panchakarma therapy that focuses on purging toxins through the lower gastrointestinal tract. It primarily addresses Pitta dosha imbalances, such as liver disorders, skin diseases, chronic acidity, and inflammatory conditions. After preparatory procedures like internal oleation and fomentation, purgative herbal medicines are administered. This clears accumulated toxins, stabilizes digestion, purifies blood, and rejuvenates internal organs. Virechana is particularly beneficial during autumn to manage aggravated Pitta.
Consolidated Benefit Explanation:
Virechana clears toxins and excess bile, restoring digestive and liver health. It improves skin clarity, balances hormonal functions, and reduces inflammatory symptoms. Regular purgation strengthens immunity and ensures smoother digestion and emotional stability.
Features:
Virechana therapy is designed to eliminate excess Pitta dosha and accumulated toxins (ama) through controlled purgation. It focuses on cleansing the liver, intestines, and blood, addressing conditions like chronic acidity, inflammatory disorders, skin diseases (eczema, psoriasis), and hormonal imbalances. This therapy restores digestive stability and promotes overall detoxification
Preparation (Purva Karma): Internal oleation with medicated ghee/oil (Snehana) and fomentation (Swedana) to loosen toxins.
Main Procedure (Pradhana Karma): Administration of herbal laxatives (e.g., Trivrit, castor oil) to induce controlled purgation, expelling toxins via the lower GI tract.
Post-Care (Paschat Karma): A light, warm diet (e.g., rice gruel) and rest to restore digestion and vitality
Virechana is ideal for individuals with Pitta-related imbalances, such as chronic acidity, liver disorders, inflammatory conditions (arthritis), skin diseases, or hormonal issues. It is contraindicated for pregnant women, those with severe weakness, tuberculosis, or acute diarrhea
Detoxification: Cleanses the liver, intestines, and blood of toxins.
Skin Health: Reduces acne, eczema, and pigmentation.
Digestive Relief: Manages acidity, bloating, and constipation.
Hormonal Balance: Stabilizes mood and hormonal functions.
Immunity Boost: Enhances metabolic and immune resilience
Snigdha Virechana: Uses oily purgatives (e.g., castor oil) for Pitta-Vata imbalances.
Ruksha Virechana: Employs dry herbs (e.g., Trivrit) for severe or chronic Pitta conditions. The choice depends on the patient’s dosha imbalance and health goals
